'The Garden Wall'

Every garden has a wall — the place where the domestic ends and the wild begins to come over. Things seed themselves at walls. Verbena volunteers. Pennycress arrives uninvited and stays. The hydrangea climbs toward whatever light it can find.

This small brass square holds verbena, hydrangea, and pennycress in the space of an inch: the deliberate, the luminous, and the persistent, all in the same frame. The wall is what they have in common. The wall is also what lets them exist together.
