'Victoria’s Window'

The Victorians were obsessed with windows — with the view from inside, with being seen without being touched, with the glass as membrane between the domestic and the wild. They pressed flowers too, filling albums with what the garden offered to the house.

Victoria’s Window takes the ornate brass frame — the kind that belonged to miniature portraits, to cameos, to things carried close to the heart — and fills it with the garden as it actually is. Spirea and hydrangea float in clear resin against the gold beading of the surround. The moss anchors everything. The whole piece is the size of something precious and the weight of something remembered.
