'She Grows Things'

The Celts believed that the hand that grows things holds a specific kind of power — not the power of the sword or the scepter, but the power of the seed. In Irish mythology the buinne is the growing shoot, the thing that insists on life even through stone. The woman who plants is the woman who knows that something larger than her is doing the actual work. She is the condition for it. She tends the conditions.
