The common name oxeye comes from oculus bovis — the eye of the ox, the large, patient, all-seeing eye. The ancient Egyptians connected the daisy to the Eye of Horus, the wedjat — the eye that sees all directions, that was damaged and healed and became more powerful in the healing. The oxeye daisy doesn’t just look at the sun. It tracks it. It turns its face through the whole arc of the day.
