'Heart Of Darkness'

Before creation — in Egyptian cosmology — there was Nun. Not nothingness. The primordial dark waters: a vast, undifferentiated potential containing everything that would ever exist, without form, without boundary, without light. The god Atum rose from these waters spontaneously, stood on the first mound, and creation began. The darkness was not the absence of the divine. The darkness was where the divine was before it needed a form.

The Kabbalistic tradition calls it Ayin — nothing, or no-thing. Not emptiness but the fullness that precedes all form. The Tao te Ching says: "The Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao." What is most real cannot be directly perceived. The heart of darkness is not a place of absence. It is the place where everything possible lives before it becomes something specific.

This is for the woman who is not afraid of the dark, because she knows what lives there.
