A palimpsest is a manuscript from which the original text has been scraped away so the parchment could be reused. The old writing was erased. New writing went on top. But the scraping was never complete — faint traces of the original remained beneath, ghosts of what was written before, readable now with the right light, the right technology, the right patience.

Women's history is a palimpsest. The old knowledge scraped, the new narrative written on top. But the scraping was never complete. The traces remain in the textile traditions, the garden knowledge, the recipes, the folk remedies, the stories told before sleep. A thousand leaves of what was known, preserved in layers, waiting for the right reader.
