'The Oracle's Pendant'

The Oracle at Delphi — the Pythia — was the most consulted spiritual authority in the ancient Greek world for nearly a thousand years. She was always a woman. She sat above a chasm in the earth through which vapors rose from decomposing limestone in the rock below and entered an altered state from which she spoke in verse. Her pronouncements were then transcribed and interpreted. But what the visitors actually came for was not prediction. The oracle was a mirror. What you saw in it was what you brought to it.

“Know thyself” was carved at the entrance to the Temple at Delphi. Not as philosophy. As instruction, and as warning. You came to the oracle to encounter yourself — the parts of yourself you had been unwilling to see, the truth you had been unable to speak, the path forward that was only unclear because you had been avoiding looking at it directly. The oracle did not tell you what was coming. She showed you what you already knew.

The universe shrinks or expands in proportion to your courage. Look inside. What you recognize there is already yours.
