'The Things We Pass By'

Humans are funny.

You are forever searching for treasure while walking directly through it.

You cross oceans looking for wonder and step over it on the way to the mailbox.

You build museums to celebrate beauty and then mow down entire fields of it every Saturday morning.

We do not say this with judgment.

Only affection.

Because we have been watching you for a very long time.

The peppermint stick balsams arrived first. Naturally. They would not have it any other way. They needed time to costume themselves as flouncy dahlia blooms. Painted in shades of crimson and rose, they entered like actresses stepping onto a stage, certain that beauty should be celebrated whenever it appears. The elderflowers arrived more quietly. Quietly, but with the fragrance that let's you unmistakably know that it is the month of June. The yarrow came carrying medicine. (Just in case anyone gets hurt out here....) The tiny cream blossoms slipped in almost unnoticed. The leaves came from plants so common that most humans never learn their names. Plants dismissed as weeds. Plants cut down before they ever have the opportunity to introduce themselves. And yet, when it came time to create this portrait, something surprising happened. The flamboyant flowers could not do it alone. The elderflowers offered wisdom. The yarrow offered resilience. The small blossoms offered balance. The forgotten leaves offered structure. Each became essential. Each completed something the others could not. That is the secret we hoped you would notice. Beauty does not belong only to the rare. Or the celebrated. Or the dramatic. Beauty belongs equally to the unnoticed things. The humble things. The things quietly performing their purpose without applause. The plants growing in gardens. And the ones growing along the edges of sidewalks. The flowers you name. And the flowers you do not. This pendant is a portrait of everything you nearly walked past. A gathering of overlooked wonders. A celebration of the extraordinary hidden inside the ordinary. Proof that nature never creates background characters. Only characters waiting to be seen.

And so we leave you with a small request. The next time you find yourself hurrying somewhere important, pause. Look down. Look closer. There is every possibility that the thing you have been searching for all along is already growing at your feet.
